Anthony Hopkins was born on December 31, 1937 in Port Talbot, Wales. Philip Anthony Hopkins is his birth name. Anthony Hopkins is well known by Sir Anthony Hopkins. In his childhood, he was very close to his maternal grandfather, who called him "George" and his father called him "Charlie". He is son of Richard Arthur Hopkins and Muriel. He grew up in his birthplace, Wales. At first, he wanted to become a pianist, so he studied at the 'Welsh College of Music and Drama'. In July 1988, he was received an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Wales. Anthony Hopkins has been married three times. He was married with Petronella Parker in September 1967 and divorced in 1972. He has a daughter named Abigail Hopkins who was born in 1968 from his first marriage. In January 1973, He was married with Jennifer Lynton and was divorced in 2003. He is now married to Stella Arroyave in March 2003. His first important role was the one in The dance of death, where he was the substitute for Laurence Olivier and his most famous role was the brilliant portrayal of the cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter in the film The Silence of the Lambs. In September 1999, he was selected by an Entertainment Weekly on-line movie poll as the Best Modern Actor and the Best Villain for his role as Hannibal Lecter. In October 1997, he was ranked #57 in Empire (UK) magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list. He is often compared with fellow Welshman Richard Burton. Anthony Hopkins is a member of the RADA Council. He is also a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), Stratford Upon Avon, England, where he spent three seasons after graduating from RADA.
