'Parineeta' Heroine Vidya Balan to Do Aishwarya Rai's Role in ABCL Movie

Due to date problems, Aishwarya Rai will not be acting in AB Corp Ltd and Spice Team Entertainment’s joint venture, to be directed by Sharbani Deodhar (who directed the Karisma Kapoor-Chandrachur Singh starrer, Silsila Hai Pyar Ka).

Parineeta heroine Vidya Balan has now been approached for the role. The Bachchans saw Parineeta and loved her performance so much, they wanted to cast her in their next project. Bhawani Iyer (Black, Main Aisa Hi Hoon) is scripting the film, starring Vinod Khanna and Jaya Bachchan.

On Big B’s praise

"Yes, it’s true that I have been approached for Sharbani’s film, but we are still working things out. We will be taking a final call on that soon," smiles Vidya, who is off in a couple of days to Rajasthan, to join Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Eklavya (earlier titled Yagna) unit.

"I have never met Mr Bachchan — this will be the first time," says the actress. "I am looking forward to meeting him. A few media people have told me that he has spoken very well about me — I feel extremely humbled. He is a living legend and it’s a huge compliment for me if someone of his stature has spoken about me."

Jaya’s role

The film "is a very sensitive take on a particular relationship," says Vidya. The plot revolves around a mother-daughter relationship, with the actress starring as Jaya Bachchan’s daughter. The film is expected to go on the floors this September, and will be filmed in Mumbai and London.

"I didn’t know Aishwarya had been approached earlier. If it’s true, it would be difficult to step into her shoes. Aishwarya is Aishwarya. It would be unfair to her to do that."

Munnabhai 2?

Vidya is also doing Rajkumar Hirani’s sequel to Munnabhai MBBS. I have got lots of offers after Parineeta, but I am taking my time.

I want to do roles that have substance — the role should require me and not just anybody, and the story has to be king. It’s also important that I am comfortable with the people I am working with.

Why Ash couldn’t do it

Ash is in Tunisia to shoot with Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley for The Last Legion. Hari Singh, her business manager, said, "We are not doing the film.

Ash has spoken to the director and I have conveyed our decision to AB Corp’s CEO, Wing Commander Ramesh. Ash was approached and loved the script, but there was a date problem.

There were a couple of meetings with the writer and director, but they wanted to start shooting the film this year, at one go. Since Ash is already committed to a number of projects, it was difficult, so we had to refuse."
