Ronaldo Will Stop Celebrations For Unity

7th October 2005 1:35:00 AM

Ronaldo has pledged to stop his goalscoring celebrations after Iván Helguera stated that it was excluding the rest of the team and insulting to the opposition.
The Real Madrid striker has been banned by Brazil from continuing to celebrate by waving his arms and legs in the air or leapfrogging team-mates and has now said he will change his style in the Spanish league.

Helguera said that he felt that the fact that the routines only involved the Brazilians in the Madrid team meant that a division was being created among the squad.

The central defender also believes that if an opposition player began the routine then he would think that they were goading him.

Helguera's words have hit a chord with Ronaldo, who has already been panned in the Spanish media and received complaints from opposition teams for his behaviour, has vowed to curtail his celebrations.

"If it has bothered one of my team-mates I shall stop doing it," Ronaldo said from Brazil's training camp. "I do not want to create problems.

"I do not like making enemies, even less so if they are from my own team.

"Nobody at the club has asked me to stop celebrating this way, but if it bothers people then I will change to something else.

"We only do it to entertain people, not to cause trouble."
