Ciara Stops Traffic with her debut Goodies has topped the charts three times...

Oct 14, 2005

The folks at Marriott were sick of that other hotel chain stealing all the press, with their famous engaging, splitting-up, marrying, divorcing, partying, fashionista/heiress daughters. So to tell the world about their newly revamped hotel rooms, they decided to put on a show on the country's biggest stage, Times Square, with the country's hottest R&B singer Ciara.

And you-know-who just had to be there - camera's rolling - so we could bring you the whole thing.

We climbed on top of a double-decker bus to get a view of the stage, which was hoisted above a glassed-in model hotel room, where tourists could take a peak before checking in.

While most pop and R & B girls barely get by with one hot single, Ciara's debut Goodies has topped the charts three times. And she's just released a forth, a slowjam called "And I." That's not even counting her roles on Missy Elliott's "Lose Control" (currently in Billboard's top 20 after 22 weeks) and on "Like You," her boyfriend Bow Wow's current hit (now on Billboard's top 5 after 11 weeks).

Ciara had barely caught her breath by the time we caught up with her in the hotel lobby for a quick conversation.

Did you ever think that you and your album would be stopping traffic in Times Square?
I didn't think it was as big as it was. And it's still growing. It's crazy! That's a dream, you know, for people to accept you as an artist. That's a blessing.

So will you bless us with another single?
You know what? I wish I could. There is a possibility that you will hear another single though, for people to get to know more about the album because I do believe that there is a few more songs -- or one more song that I could really put out there.

What is it?
"Hot Line." That'd be good. We would put a little "Hot Line" out there.

So while your debut record is still going strong, do you even consider going back into the studio?
Oh, of course. I'm actually about to go back in the studio very soon. I'm so ready. There's so much on my mind and heart that I want to talk about and I just want to make great music. Like for real, it's like I want to take a break and then I'm ready to do another video. I'm going to do some more dancing!

Your moves are so unique. What inspires you to move the way you do?
Watching my Michael [Jackson] as an entertainer. I love Michael, and also my friends. I have some friends who street dance, they're amazing street dancers.

Where did you learn to dance?
I used to go to the skating rink. When I was 12 years old that's when I learned how to break a little bit and learn how to do all kinds of moves that I never thought that I could do.

Speaking of skating rinks, your boyfriend is in a movie about roller skating. Did you know he could skate so well?
I've seen him 'crazy leg' before.

What did you think of Bow Wow's performance in Roll Bounce?
As far as making it real and being convinced by it, really great. It's a great movie. It's emotional, intense, and funny. I don't even want to say that people are going to be surprised to see what they see because he's very talented.

Some celebrity couples keep their relationship on the low, like Jay-Z and Beyoncé. Then there's the couch jumpers like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes who are really, really vocal about their love. You and Bow Wow are kind of in the middle.
You know what, I will say that when it comes to that part of my life I am a very private person. You'll get, but so much out of me, you know?

Fair enough. Another question you must get a lot: Would you describe your music as Crunk & B?
I have to just say about the Crunk & B thing: I can't wait until it goes away.
