Tom Hanks takes us on an IMAX trip to the moon

3rd of October 2005, 14:35

Tom Hanks, 49, who played the never-say-die commander Jim Lovell in Apollo 13, has reportedly pleaded with US space agency NASA to let him join their mission to the moon in 2018.

"I have just two questions: What will be the mission? And can I go?" he was quoted as saying.
But, unfortunately, Hanks' dream will never come true, because in 2018 he will be 62 years old and he will never be able to get through the conditions required for astronauts.

Tom has recently wrote and produced IMAX movie "Magnificent Desolation: Walking On The Moon."

Thomas Hanks, born July 9, 1956, is an American actor, famous for playing notable roles in many popular and critically acclaimed movies. He is well known for his acting ability, and is able to play characters that range from the vulnerable "Forrest Gump", through the inspirational leader in "Philadelphia" to the never-say-die commander Jim Lovell in "Apollo 13".

Hanks is generally known for his talent to imbue "nice-guy" roles with warmth, for example in the romantic comedy "Sleepless in Seattle", but is quite capable of taking the role of a mob hitman in "Road to Perdition", as well.
