Shahrukh Khan’s Paheli selected for Oscar nomination.
Paheli starring Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee has been selected as India’s official cinema for the 2006 foreign films category at the Oscars. Paheli is produced by the big Khan himself and directed by India’s veteran actor, Amol Palekar. The story is based on a novel by leading Rajasthani writer Vijaydhan Detha and according to Amol Palekar Paheli is a love story emphasizing woman’s right to make a choice in her life and this movie brings forth the rustic vibration of Rajasthan.
A ten-member jury headed by respected filmmaker Vinod made this selection out of fourteen other films like Swades, Veer-Zara, Black, Page-3, Iqbal, Mangal Pandey and others. Paheli also features Anupam Kher, Juhi Chawla, Suniel Shetty, apart from Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee in the lead role. Ravi Chandran spectacular cinematography aided in the success of Paheli. According to the director the shooting was wrapped up in 47 days.
The other bollywood cinema chosen for Oscar nominations were Devdaas, Lagaan, 1947: Earth, Mother India, Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam, Ankur, Manthan and Saransh.
