Anthony Hopkins to play 'Papa' Hemingway

October 5, 2005

Academy award winner Anthony Hopkins will play the celebrated author Ernest Hemingway in a movie called ‘Papa’.

The movie would be directed by Roger Donaldson. Sir Anthony Hopkins already stars in Donaldson’s next film ‘The World’s Fastest Indian’.

The Dominian Post quoted the director as saying: “It’s a pretty ambitious movie for what it is ... Hemingway is a great writer and a great character. If anybody can play Hemingway, Tony Hopkins can.”

‘Papa’ is said to look at the last days of Hemingway’s life, during which he spent time with America’s youngest war correspondent in the Korean War.

Meanwhile, Hemingway’s last novel ‘Under Kilimanjaro’, manuscript of which lay in a Cuban bank for 44 years, will hit the bookstores this month. The novel also has an Indian character.
