This Irishman from Dublin has earned a reputation of being a bad boy. His personal life has been equally covered in the tabloids as much as his professional life. Colin has had a meteoric rise in Hollywood since the year 2000. Colin’s most famous role till date has been of Alexander the Great in Alexander (2004) the Oliver Stone directed epic. Very early in his career Colin has had the chance to work with some of the biggest names in the business such as Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise, Al Pacino, Bruce Willis and many more.
Colin was born in a working-class family. His father Eamon was a professional football player and played in the Shamrock Rovers club, his mother Rita was a housewife. Colin was the youngest of his siblings; he has a brother and two sisters. Eamon Jr., Catherine and Claudine. It was Catherine that got him interested in acting because when he was just nine years old she would make him sit with her and watch movies on tapes.
Colin was forced to join a dance class as his brother Eamon Jr. had joined too. Colin joined the Gaiety School of Acting but later dropped out only to be cast in a starring role in Ballykissangels on BBC. He debuted on the big screen in Tom Roth’s The War Zone (1999). He made his debut in North America in the movie Tigerland (2000) directed by Joel Schumacher. The film was a flop but Colin got rave reviews for his role as ‘Bozz’. Colin then followed it up with American Outlaws (2001) and the Hart’s War (2002) with Bruce Willis. Both these films were also flops.
Colin then finally got a super hit in the form of Minority Report (2002) directed by Steven Spielberg. He teamed up again with Joel Schumacher for Phone Booth (2003). This film too was a huge success pushing Colin in the A-list of stars.
In 2003, Colin fathered a son James Padraig, with model Kim Bordenave. Recently Colin revealed that his son suffers from ‘Angelman Syndrome’ a rare genetic disorder which causes slow mental growth.
Colin has had his fair share of controversies. He was also involved in a sex tape scandal when a sex tape he had made with his ex-girlfriend, former Playboy playmate, Nicole Narain had surfaced. Colin filed a lawsuit against Nicole and Internet Commerce Group who had tried to release it on the internet. Though he reached a settlement with Nicole the tape was eventually leaked onto the web by unknown persons.
Colin was sued twice by telephone sex worker Dessarae Bradford for harassment and abuse. Both the cases were dismissed, as Dessarae could not provide evidence to support her claim. She declared waging war on Colin. She recorded a song titled ‘Colin Farrell is my Bitch’ and wrote a book called ‘Collin Farrell: A Dark Twisted Puppy’. Colin got a restraining order from her when she stormed onto the sets of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Colin has starred in many successful films such as The Recruit, Daredevil, SWAT, Alexander and Miami Vice (2006).He also completed the role left incomplete by Heath Ledger owing to his untimely passing in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009). Heaths role was completed by three actors Colin, Johnny Depp and Jude Law. They donated their fees to Heath’s daughter who was unfortunately left out of the will which was not updated for a long time.
