David Spade Biography

David Spade was born in Birmingham, Michigan. His father, Wayne Spade, was a sales representative and his mother, Judith M, was a writer and magazine editor. He has two brothers, Bryan and Andy Spade. David had a very normal life growing up; he attended the Scottsdale Community College, and later the Arizona State University. Here at the University, he found his love for doing stand-up comedy and worked in the Farce Side Comedy Hour, the University’s very own sketch show. From thereon, he also worked a few gigs in and around Tempe, Arizona while supporting himself doing odd jobs.

David soon found work with the help of Dennis Miller, and became a writer and cast member for Saturday Night Live. He found great success on the show, and wrote many skits and created many of his signature sarcastic-style characters. He also did a few impersonations on the show, but most of the mimicry work he wrote was given to Dana Carvey. In 1995, the show was going through a transitional phase and many of the original members left for greener pastures. David stayed on for another year, helping the show with new cast members. He finally left in 1996, and searched for work mainly in TV. David got lots of offers from networks, giving him his own show. But he declined and starred as Dennis Finch in the office ensemble comedy, Just Shoot Me! His character on the show was of a sarcastic, sleazy receptionist, Dennis Finch, similar to the characters he had created on SNL.

Films were also happening for him albeit at a slow pace. He had already made his debut in Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol in small role. He joined fellow SNL cast member Chris Farley and did Tommy Boy and Black Sheep (1996). Both the movies did well, but unfortunately Chris died of an accidental drug overdose. David was devastated and could not even summon the courage to attend Chris’ funeral. He continued with supporting roles, and even lent his voice for the animation series Beavis and Butthead (1994–1997). David preferred to work mostly in TV despite his other SNL colleagues like Adam Sandler, starting their film careers.

David was doing well in the sitcom circuit. Just Shot Me! had come to an end and he was looking for another show. Sadly, tragedy struck another hit sitcom; 8 Simple Rules. The star of the show, John Ritter, died of a heart problem during filming, and the show was left without a star. David stepped into the show as John’s nephew and stayed on till the end. Film-wise, his career had picked up too. He starred in The Benchwarmers, with Rob Schneider and Jon Heder. The film was produced by Happy Madison Productions, and did well in the domestic circuit. After 8 Simple Rules got over, David landed a role in another sitcom called Rules of Engagement. The show was again produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison on CBS. Rules Of Engagement became a hit and is in its sixth season. David was last seen in the movie, Grown Ups with Adam Sandler and Kevin James. David still prefers to work more in television, but has shown keenness in doing movies off late.

David has fathered a baby girl with Playboy Playmate Jillian Grace. The girl is named Harper Spade. David is single and has not been in a long-term relationship for a long time. He mostly dates non-famous people and stays away from famous women.
