Gerard Butler News
Off late there has been an invasion of British actors in Hollywood. Gerard Butler is a big part of it. Here is an actor who has patiently bided his time and made an impact within the last few years. Gerard started off as a lawyer but got fired from his first ever job. In almost a prophetic way, Gerard happened to see a stage production of Trainspotting and was inspired to take up acting. Immediately after his firing, he moved to London and sought work in the theatre circuit.
Gerard got a few stage productions and made his big screen debut in Mrs. Brown (1997). He also got a small role in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). He followed it up with some steady work in television in the series Attila (2001). He was soon cast as Dracula in Dracula 2000 (2000) and was taken in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). Gerard continued to do some good work waiting for that next big opportunity. That opportunity came in the form of 300 (2007). The movie was an all-out historical action adventure. Gerard played King Leonidas, the King of Sparta, who wages a war against King Xerxes. The movie was shot in a studio and brought revolutionizing technology to forefront of filmmaking. Gerard had to bulk up and build six-pack abs to look the part of a Spartan warrior and trained for months. The gamble paid off and movie became the biggest hit of his career.
He had truly arrived in Hollywood and how. He resisted the temptation to similar roles and went in for different roles instead. Female fans loved his romantic turn in P.S.I Love You (2007) opposite Hillary Swank. He also lent his voice for the animation flick How to Train Your Dragon (2010). Gerard it seems is trying to make up for lost time and has done quite a few movies in the last few years. Even though, he has shown a penchant for comedy films his true love remains for action films.
