Halle Berry is probably the most successful female black actress. She has is also the first black woman to win the Oscar Award for lead actress. Halle has had a steady climb in Hollywood from her beauty pageant winning days. She won the Miss Ohio and was the runner-up in the Miss USA pageant. Halle started off her career in TV but her show did not last very long on TV.

Halle is of mixed race and was raised by her Caucasian mother, Judith Hawkins. Her father divorced her mother and left the family when she was only four years old. Growing up, Halle took parts in a few beauty pageants and won them. She knew that she wanted to get in the entertainment industry from the very beginning.

Modeling followed her pageant winning and Halle also landed a role in the series Living Dolls (1989). The show got cancelled but Halle got all the Exposure she needed. She did a few TV movies that helped her make her big screen debut in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever (1991). The movie was a hit and Halle hit the bull’s eye with her very first movie. Her next big role came in Boomerang (1992), where she starred opposite Eddie Murphy. Halle true big break came in the form of the TV movie named Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999). She took home the prestigious Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

She followed it up with the blockbuster X-Men (2000) where she played Ororo Munroe better known as Storm, a mutant with the power to control the weather. The movie had other stars like Sir Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman. Not just content with box-office success, Halle took home the Oscar for her lead role in Monster’s Ball (2001). Then she followed it up with becoming the Bond girl in Die Another Day (2002) opposite Pierce Brosnan.

Halle was cast as the lead in Catwoman (2004), but the movie was a huge disaster and Halle even won the worst actress Razzie Award. Later Halle admitted that doing the movie was a mistake. Halle continues to work in blockbuster movies like X-2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). She also got critical acclaim for her role in the movie Things We Lost in the Fire (2007). It was after this movie that Halle dropped the idea of adoption and decided to become a mother with her boyfriend.

Halle has married and divorced twice, owing to this fact she has completely sworn off marriage. She dated model Gabriel Aubry who was nine years her junior. They broke up in April, 2010. She also has a daughter named Nhala with him.
