Mischa Anne Barton was born on January 24, 1986 in London, England to Richard Barton and Nuala Barton. The family moved to NY, USA, when Barton was four years old. Her father is British, while mother is Irish. Mischa has two sisters, elder sister Zoe and younger sister Hania. Mischa is graduated from the Professional Children's School in Manhattan, in 2004.

Barton's acting career began with Kushner's play "Slavs!", when she was only nine years old. Where she got a chance to work with the future Oscar winner Marisa Tomei. Mischa was got rave reviews for her work, which led her to roles in numerous plays including a lead role in James Lapine's "Twelve Dreams". While performed "Where the Truth Lies" and "One Flea Spare" in the New York Shakespeare Festival.

In 1996, Mischa landed a recurring role in the ABC soap opera "All My Children", she worked there for year. As a teenager, Barton joined the Ford Modeling Agency and worked for Calvin Klein campaign and also for the likes of Gitano and Vogue.

Barton's breakthrough film was "Lawn Dogs (1997)" opposite Sam Rockwell. Barton later appeared in many films such as 1999's "Pups" as a Rockry, "Notting Hill" with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, "The Sixth Sense", where played a role of a girl who was poisoned by her mother.

Barton's 2000's projects include "Skipped Parts (2000) with Jennifer Jason Leigh and Drew Barrymore, "Paranoid (2000)" with Jessica Alba, "Tart (2001)" with Melanie Griffith and Dominique Swain, "Julie Johnson (2001)" alongside Courtney Love and Lili Taylor, and starred in "Lost and Delirious (2001)".

Back to television, Barton next appeared on ABC show "Once and Again" with recurring role in its 2001-2002 season. In 2003, landed a role in the horror thriller "Octane".

Barton's most popular role came in 2006 with a FOX TV show "The O.C.". It was one of her most critically acclaimed role, where she played a role of Marissa Cooper, who is a wealthy and popular Orange County high school student. But the role was ended in a fatal car "accident" during the third season's finale.

Along with Calvin Klein campaign, Barton appeared in many commercials including Keds sneakers, bebe, Aéropostale, JC (Jeans and Clothes), Dooney and Bourke and Neutrogena. Also appeared in Enrique Iglesias's video "Addicted" and in James Blunt's video "Goodbye My Lover".

Barton is dating Cisco Adler (singer of the L.A. rock outfit Whitestarr and son of legendary record producer Lou Adler) since November 2005. Barton has also dated oil heir Brandon Davis (March 2004-July 2005) for a year, who is a grandson of billionaire Hollywood mogul Marvin Davis and family friend of Nicky and Paris Hilton's!.

Barton's upcoming projects include "Hexxx (2007)" and "Closing the Ring (2007)".
