Owen Wilson is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood, not only is he an actor but also an accomplished scriptwriter. Owen is known for his trademark broken nose. Owen has made his mark as a comedic actor starring in hit comedy films like Meet the Parents (2000), Shanghai Noon (2000) and Night at the Museum (2006). He is known to frequently collaborate with long time good friend Ben Stiller, appearing in a total of nine movies with him.
Owen has even received an Oscar nomination for his writing skills. He frequently collaborates with friend Wes Anderson, with whom he has co-written many scripts, including The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). Owen has mainly played comedic roles, but he has also tried his hands at serious roles. He played a soldier stuck across the enemy border in Behind Enemy Lines (2001). He was recommended for the role by Gene Hackman himself who had seen him in Shanghai Noon (2000).
Owen is a part of a Hollywood Frat Pack; he usually works with Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughan, Will Ferrell and Jack Black. Owen has had a gradual rise in Hollywood, starting off with some supporting roles to starring roles like in Marley & Me (2008) and Drillbit Taylor (2008).
Usually the happy-go-lucky kind, Owen shocked everyone when he attempted suicide in August 2007. He survived the attempt, but has not spoken publically about it. The only information received was from his lawyer, who said that the actor was receiving treatment for depression. Due to his hospitalization, he could not be a part of friend Ben Stiller’s movie Tropic Thunder (2009). Owen has now moved on from the incident and is concentrating on his career.
