Reese Witherspoon News
- Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth are engaged!

Before Legally Blonde (2001), everybody had this negative image about blondes, but Reese, with her stellar and funny portrayal, has changed the views of many. She proved to the world that she is not just another blonde with big breasts, not only in the film, but in real life too, as she has gone onto win many awards for some great roles.

Reese Witherspoon is one of the most popular actresses today. Not to mention the fact that, she is also one of the highest paid actresses. She constantly makes it to the most beautiful lists of many magazines. And just recently, on the 28th of December, she announced of her engagement to talent agent Jim Toth. Reese has come a long way from a 7-year-old girl, who first appeared in a commercial for a local florist.

She was born in Louisiana, but was raised, the first four years of her life, in Germany. Her father, John Witherspoon, served as a lieutenant colonel, and an ENT surgeon in the army. Four years later, he moved the family back to the US and settled in Nashville, Tennessee. So Reese had an upbringing of a typical southerner.

She took to acting soon after she got a chance to be part of a commercial. Reese took acting lessons and took part on talent competitions. But she was also good in school, always getting good grades and being part of the cheerleading team in high school; Reese lead an active academic life. Next on the cards for her was a degree in English literature from Stanford University, but she finally gave into her desire of becoming an actress and quit college.

A plumb lead role fell in her lap for the film The Man in the Moon (1991). She had auditioned for the role of an extra, but the casting people gave her the lead. Making good use of this opportunity, she gave a good performance, which was loved by fans and critics alike. In her first film itself, she had shown good potential. She had to wait a while before something great came her way. Freeway (1996) and Fear (1996) were her next good performances. Though, both the films were commercial failures, Reese made the most out of it by giving good performances in both of them.

Pleasantville (1998) was also a good movie but her next, Cruel Intentions (1999) brought her into the spotlight. Here, she fell in love with her co-star, actor Ryan Philippe. The two met on her birthday party, and started dating during the filming. They got married after the film in June, 1999. Their marriage seemed to be an ideal one, as the two became one of the best-loved couple of Hollywood and the tabloids.

Reese’s career too took off. Legally Blonde was major blockbuster and became one of her best films. Next came a movie that was very close to her. Sweet Home Alabama (2002) was the film, where she played a southerner, and it reminded her of the life she lived in Nashville. The film was also a hit, but a critical failure. She improved with every performance and came very close to winning awards; she finally delivered an Oscar-winning performance in Walk the Line (2005). She played June Carter Cash, the second wife of country music legend, Johnny Cash. She took home the Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award and many other prestigious awards.

Her career was going great, but her personal life was starting to unravel. Media found out that she and Ryan were seeking marriage counseling. The news was splashed all over the tabloids, which made matter worse for them. The therapy did not work, and the two got in divorced 2007. Many were shocked by the split, as they were seen as the couple that would last the distance. Reese soon started dating her Rendition (2007) co-star Jake Gyllenhaal; the two tried to keep the relationship under wraps, but were foiled by an intrusive media. This relation too did not last and they split in November, 2009. It seems, Reese has found true love again with Jim Toth, a talent agent. The two got engaged recently in December, 2010. Reese has two children with Ryan, Ava and Deacon.

Her last major hit was Monster vs. Alien (2009), which was 3D animation film. She is awaiting the release of many promising films in 2011 like Water for Elephants (2011).
