He was firstly appeared in 1968 in Greetings which was directed by Brian De Palma. After that he acted in many other films directed by Brian De Palma. In 1973 he made his first major movies, Bang the Drum Slowly and Mean Streets. In these and other motion pictures he has shown an impressive dramatic range and expressiveness. Robert De Niro was known for his intense portrayals of tough guys, he is closely identified with Scorsese films, including Mean Streets (1973), Taxi Driver (1976), Goodfellas (1990, with Joe Pesci) and Casino (1995, with Sharon Stone). Formerly held the World Record for Most Weight Gained for a Movie, in gaining over 60 pounds for his role in Raging Bull (1980). In 1974 Robert De Niro won an Oscar for The Godfather, Part II. He won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for that performance. He is the second actor to win an Oscar for portraying Vito Corleone. He and Marlon Brando are the only two actors to win an Oscar for playing the same character. He got second Oscar, for Best Actor in Raging Bull (1980). Niro also started the Tribeca Film Center in the 90's, a company intent on promoting film-making in New York and made his directorial debut in 1993 with A Bronx Tale (1993). He is one of the busiest actors in the movies, and has made nearly three dozen movies by the 1990.
